Our Hair Transplant Doctors at Gro Clinics Auckland
Our PFP hair transplant procedures are overseen by our experienced doctors.
Dr Leo Chong (MCNZ No. 75673) is a New Zealand-trained and ACC-credited health provider with a focus on careful planning and natural hairline design.
Dr Jack Yeoman (MCNZ No. 89436) has a special interest in hair restoration and male aesthetics. He has trained in a range of modern techniques in both New Zealand and internationally.
Your initial discovery call will be with a hair growth advisor, followed by an in-clinic consultation, scalp assessment and personalised treatment plan.
After this call, our Auckland doctors, either Dr Leo Chong or Dr Jack Yeoman, will then create and finalise your plan, outline your new hairline and perform the procedure.
Your hair transplant is performed by an AHPRA-registered doctor. Your initial discovery call is with a Hair Growth Advisor, and technicians do not perform hair transplants with Gro Clinics.
For a more affordable option, our Melbourne clinic also offer procedures performed by an AHPRA-registered nurse.
Your scalp assessment, hairline design and treatment plan are still completed by your doctor, who oversees the full procedure.
Doctor Experience
Our Auckland hair transplant doctors have thorough training and many years of experience in a range of hair loss treatments that are suitable for men and women.
Dr Leo Chong graduated from the University of Auckland in 2017 and is an ACC-accredited health provider in New Zealand. He has a clinical background in orthopaedics and trauma care, and is committed to patient safety and clear communication.
Dr Jack Yeoman has trained in a range of modern techniques and has experience in performing Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). He works closely with Gro Clinics’ staff to deliver hair restoration procedures with a strong focus on precision, patient care and individual treatment planning.
Their experience at Gro Clinics includes extensive training in our hair transplant method. Our Precise Follicle Placement (PFP) technique is a refinement of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), designed to deliver natural-looking, long-lasting results.

Dr Leo Chong and Dr Jack Yeoman receive additional internal training on our approach to follicle placement to ensure consistent quality of care. We use a Precise Follicle Placement (PFP) technique that focuses on careful planning and follicle placement designed to support natural-looking density, angle and direction. Through this training, we can deliver a standard model of care, with full support of your recovery during and after your procedure.
Precise Follicle Placement is our approach to the placement stage. Each graft is placed with a precision placement device that creates the site and places the follicle in one motion, so the angle, depth and direction of every graft are set by your doctor at the moment of placement rather than by an incision made beforehand.
Your donor area is finite and does not renew, so every graft taken from it is spent. Grafts are extracted individually and spread across the area rather than drawn heavily from one region, which keeps the donor even and leaves a second procedure possible later.
Hairlines, crowns and full restorations are planned around how your hair loss is likely to progress, not just how it looks today. Donor preservation sits at the centre of that, because your donor area is finite and does not renew. The aim is a result that still looks natural in ten years, not only in twelve months.
Gro invested more than $500,000 in practitioner training and research in the last year to signal their committed investment in quality hair transplants.
Gro Clinics Mission
At Gro Clinics, our doctors are committed to providing Auckland clients with proven expertise and hair restoration treatments that support natural, long-lasting results. Our methods involve more than just the procedure itself, as we provide:

Meet the Doctors Behind Your Hair Restoration Journey
For years, our doctors have aided clients across the country in their hair restoration journey, providing tailored solutions to balding or thinning hair.
Whether it is genetic female hair loss or men losing hair due to lifestyle factors, our locally trained team is here to help you develop new hair growth.
The dedicated clinical team at your local Gro Clinics includes doctors who perform and oversee every hair transplant procedure. Each practitioner follows Gro’s established protocols to ensure patient safety and medical suitability.
Dr. Adam, one of our experienced team members, has performed procedures that collectively involved the transplantation of more than 6 million hairs. While results and suitability vary, each treatment is tailored to the individual and guided by clinical best practices.
All of our staff are locally trained to utilise hair transplant techniques and technology. This includes a refined approach to FUE called Precise Follicle Placement (PFP), designed to focus on precision and consistency during hair restoration procedure.
Individual results and recovery times may vary, but the team will guide you through realistic expectations and their expected process ahead of treatment.

Two doctors, both registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand, both working only on hair restoration. The doctor who reviews your case and confirms your plan is the doctor who performs your procedure.
Hair transplants at Gro Clinics Auckland are performed by Dr Leo Chong and Dr Jack Yeoman, doctors registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand, at the clinic in Newmarket, Auckland.
"I design every hairline around the individual, not a template. My job is to plan it carefully and make sure you understand your options before you decide.
"Every procedure day starts with the plan - hairline, density, what we're prioritising. Once that's agreed, the rest is precision: every graft at the right angle and depth."

How Gro Performs FUE in Auckland (Our PFP Approach)
We use a hair transplant method known as Precise Follicle Placement (PFP) at Gro Clinics. This refined approach to Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) involves:
This method is minimally invasive and provides long-lasting results with minimal scarring. We aim for natural-looking results that may improve hair density and coverage.
Hair restoration looks different for everyone. Find out what works for you.
We understand how important the new hairline is, so all hairlines are planned by our doctors. Our process in creating a new natural hairline balances a few factors:
Your hair restoration goals: You will work collaboratively with your doctor on the hairline you have in mind.
Your facial proportions: Your doctor has the expertise to guide the right hairline to suit your face.
Any long-term hair loss: Your hairline will be designed with your underlying cause in mind to support your long-term hair restoration plan.
The natural ageing process: The hairline will be designed with an aim to suit you today and as you age.
Our hair transplantation method focuses on singular follicular unit extraction and careful placements. We use a refined extraction punch to remove grafts from your donor area with the aim of minimal impact to the surrounding tissue.
Every graft is individually placed using single and multi-implanters, allowing us to control the exact angle, depth, and direction of each follicle. Our doctors are trained internally on this refined approach to FUE, which is designed to minimise visible scarring.
Our approach to minimise visible scarring also aims to protect your donor area for future hair restoration procedures. On your in-clinic consultation, we will do a full scalp health assessment before recommending the number of grafts you may need.
We aim to balance your donor area with your transplant goals for long-term results. This approach is designed to improve hair density and coverage, whilst supporting your existing healthy hair.
If you are considering corrective work following a previous hair transplant procedure, an in-clinic consultation may assess suitability.
Your in-clinic consultation will first diagnose what went wrong, such as incorrect hairline design, unnatural angulation, poor density, visible scarring or donor depletion. If deemed suitable for a corrective hair transplant, we may use our PFP method to carefully re-graft to support natural-looking results.
Below is an indicative timeline of what you may experience after a hair transplant with Gro Clinics. This timeline is based on our clinical observations: your individual results may vary.
• Start with a discovery call to discuss your goals and learn more about available services.
• Attend an in-clinic consultation to review your hair concerns and treatment options.
• On the day of your procedure, meet with your doctor to finalise your personalised plan, confirm medical suitability, and walk through what to expect.
• Temporary redness, swelling or itchiness may occur and typically settles with time.
• Shedding is expected as part of the natural hair cycle.
• Follicles begin to stabilise beneath the surface, early growth activity may be visible.
• You’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions and follow-up check-ins.
• Individuals may begin noticing early signs of hair growth.
• Hair may appear finer or lighter at first and gradually mature in texture.
• Density and coverage vary depending on individual factors.
• Maintaining scalp health through recommended care can support the process.
6–18 months
• Hair typically continues to thicken and gain texture over time.
• Visible changes may occur for some people around the 6-month mark.
• Final outcomes depend on factors like genetics, age, lifestyle and adherence to aftercare.
• Ongoing follow-up and consistent haircare may help support long-term results.

What Happens on the Day of Your Procedure
Every Gro hair clinic follows the same personalised care. We've built a dedicated team around our doctors to take care of the details, so that our doctors can focus fully on your hair transplant procedure.
Recovery, Shedding and Shock Loss
We continue our customer care long after the day of your procedure. We provide post-procedure support with consistent follow-ups to monitor your results and check for any symptoms for up to 18 months after your transplant.
Our methods are designed to minimise visible scarring and improve hair density and coverage, with clear, gradual improvement over time. However, as your natural hair growth cycle is disrupted during the extraction and implantation, experiences during the recovery phase may vary.
This recovery period may last 1-6 months, depending on individual factors. During this time, temporary shedding, known as hair transplant shock loss, may occur.
"This temporary shedding phase is called shock loss. It usually happens in the first two to eight weeks after a hair transplant. The follicles remain healthy, and new hair growth may begin around three to four months."
This process is a completely normal physiological and stress-induced response that causes the follicles to enter their resting phase prematurely.

Your investment
What an Auckland Hair Transplant Costs
Most procedures fall between $12,000 and $17,000, and two plans in that range can still sit thousands apart, depending on the areas treated, the number of grafts, and your personalised plan.
What we will commit to.
You get an exact figure before you decide anything, in writing, everything included. Nothing appears later that wasn't in that number. Same price, same inclusions, same standard at all our clinics. Weekly payment plans are available.
And if a procedure isn't the right move for you yet, the conversation ends there, not with a quote.

All treatments are subject to medical assessment.
Choosing Local Care Over Travelling Overseas

Medical tourism can seem attractive at first, due to package deals and low prices, but the full experience can cost more than just the procedure.
A local clinic in Auckland operates under New Zealand healthcare standards and is more accessible and ready to support you than a foreign clinic. From the initial discovery call through to your procedure and recovery, you will have a committed team within reach that is available for questions and assistance in your own time zone, and can provide highly accessible assistance.
Doctor Perspective:
“Now, for me, a hair transplant isn't a one-off event. It's two years surrounding it. You're not going to get that overseas. You'll be seen on one day, sent back to Australia and be forgotten about. Now, what happens if there's an issue? What happens if the hairs don't grow like they should? What happens if you need to get a revision procedure, if things go very poorly? I've seen enough people who have travelled overseas and come back; the hair transplant hasn't gone as expected, and they can be very difficult to treat afterwards, because their donor, the area that we need to take [hair] from, has been brought to the point that repairing is difficult to impossible.”
When you travel overseas for a hair transplant, support is less accessible after the procedure, and you may run into hidden costs and logistics. Flights from Auckland to Turkey or Thailand can cost around $1,800, not including additional fees for accommodations, insurance, transfers and time off work.
Your hair transplant is a long-term decision and should be planned like one. By choosing local care, you have time for detailed consultations, personalised treatment planning and accessible, continued support during your recovery period.
We are located right in the bustling centre of Auckland, easily reachable by public transport.
At Gro, we are an experienced hair restoration clinic with over a decade of results across New Zealand & Australia. Our experience informs all of our procedures.
Our approach to single-follicle extraction has been refined over 10+ years, delivering natural density while reducing visible scarring at the donor site.
Our on-site doctors personally plan and oversee every hairline; we don’t delegate the crucial planning stage to a technician.
Our procedures are mapped to your unique facial structure, age and growth pattern. Our goal is to give you a hairline compatible with your natural growth pattern.
Structured payment options are available so cost won’t keep you from the results you want. Options can be discussed during your consultation.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Answers are general in nature and don't replace medical advice. Outcomes vary.
Yes, all of our hair transplant procedures require a consultation to assess your medical history, hair health and suitability. We start with a free 15-minute discovery call before scheduling a consultation and scalp health assessment.
The hair growth doctor will determine how many hair grafts you'll need depending on a number of factors. They'll assess the size of your bald or thinning areas, your hair thickness, the hair and scalp health of your donor area and your hair restoration goals. They'll also factor in your age, medical history and underlying factors to give you a thorough recommendation.
Yes, your input is a key part of the hairline process. Whilst our doctor will have the expertise to guide the process to a natural, long-lasting result, you will work together to define your goals.
The donor follicles are taken from healthier areas of your scalp, which may not have experienced an increase in DHT or pattern baldness. It is designed this way for long-lasting results.
However, the natural ageing process may still progress twenty years after a hair transplant, leading to greying or thinning hair.
Hair restoration is a gradual process, with results varying over time.
Our hair transplants are designed for natural-looking results. We developed a Precise Follicle Placement (PFP) technique, which is a refined approach to the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique. PFP involves:
- Extracting individual follicles from the donor area - Detailed planning during implantation to align with the natural angle - Aligning with the natural angle, direction and spacing of your existing hair
The minimally invasive procedure is designed to be long-lasting, with minimal visible scarring. Its aim is natural-looking results that may improve hair density and coverage.
Yes, depending on underlying conditions and suitability. We create personalised treatment plans and only recommend combined procedures suited for your hair health and restoration goals.
Yes, we may recommend prescription haircare alongside a hair transplant to support the survival and recovery of transplanted hair. However, prescription haircare may need to be paused for up to 2 weeks after your hair transplant to allow your scalp to heal.
Prescription haircare treatments are available following a consultation with a doctor to assess suitability.
Post-procedure support is part of the service. You will receive an aftercare plan and consistent follow-ups to support your recovery.
